Carter Gear Guide for Crypts
Carter's level sets his base crypt bonuses, but his gear decides how far above that he can reach. This guide covers what to put on him, piece by piece, to clear higher crypts in one march.

Equipment: Tomb Raider, then Omniscience
A captain holds three equipment items. For Carter, put your crypt gear on him and nobody else, since no other captain uses crypt bonuses.
- Tomb Raider is the set to start with. Craft it at blue or purple at least. Lower rarities aren't worth the materials.
- Omniscience is the next step, and it helps both march speed and crypt efficiency. Players switch to it once they start on Epic crypts, from around level 15.
- Rarity matters as much as the set. Work up from blue and purple toward red and gold, and the crypt levels Carter clears in one march climb with it.

Gems
Fill every socket with crypt exploration efficiency gems. Amber is the one most players use for Carter, and players report it drops from the Dracorne Rare crypt. Keep the gems at the same rarity as the gear or one step below. See Rare crypts and keys for how to farm them.
Enchantment
Pioneer is the enchantment players put on Carter for crypts.
Artifact
The Torch of Olympus is the artifact players aim for on Carter, and players report it comes from the Trials of Olympus. Its bonus is partly random: if yours only helps Common or Rare crypts, reroll it toward the overall crypt bonus or the Epic one. Until you have it, the War Drum works as a stopgap.
Level, talents and title
- Level Carter to 300. His crypt efficiency and Tar capacity stop growing there, so experience past 300 is better spent on other captains. See Best captains for crypts.
- Talents. In the Archeology tree, crypt exploration efficiency and cost. A separate talent preset for crypts saves switching by hand.
- Title. Premium players can set Great Archaeologist for crypt efficiency and march speed.
- Timing. Bonuses count when the march starts, so set all of this before you send him.
The goal of all of it is one thing: the highest crypt level Carter clears in one march. Check the exploration progress after each upgrade and move up a level when it reaches 100% in one trip.
